Welcome to Selby & District Riding Club’s website
The Selby & District Riding Club was formed in 1983 by three
friends who each owned their own horse and felt that there was a need for a
local riding club on the South side of York. Pauline, who was our former
treasurer was one of these founding members.
Over the years we have gone from strength to strength. From our very humble beginnings, when we borrowed fields and various other venues, we now have a club field at Deighton on the A19 where we hold various competitions and training throughout the year covering all disciplines. We are always open to suggestions and new ideas for events to run. We pride ourselves on being a friendly Club and encourage competitors at all levels.
We welcome both junior and senior members, we do our best to accommodate for every level of rider from poles on the ground and happy hackers to the competition rider. We cover mini sj to open courses, walk and trot dressage tests to elementary Dressage.
Selby and District is a BHS affiliated British Riding club (BRC) and is within Area 4.
BRC divides the UK into 23 areas of which each area has approx 23 clubs and has in excess of 36,000 members. There is also a large volunteer network across the UK, without whose valuable assistance it would not be possible to run the vast number of local, area and national competitions available to BRC members
The British Riding Clubs movement aims to reach all types of horse
and rider from the dedicated competitor to the happy hacker. We offer a whole
range of support and encouragement for riders, including national competitions,
qualifications and social events. We support the Area Riding Club events and our teams represent us
all over the country.
British Riding Clubs hold five main National Championships every year. This covers a range of disciplines from Dressage to Show Jumping to Showing and Cross-Country. We also have several classes at some of the biggest equestrian events in the UK, including Olympia, Royal Windsor and the Royal International Horse Show.
